The server pop. has never reached over 8 players since the reset. If we need to get this community to be active,we need to evolve(change) by moving Toward a new game. I made a poll to determine which game we should move to,So vote what is the game we should we move to.

Same. Not much to do in Hl2dm.

    • Re: We need to start thinking of moving to another game

This happens everytime we switch from a popular map. If you're looking for a community, feel free to switch games. If you're trying to engage OUR community, then it needs to happen in this game.

It's easy to say that we should all switch games, but not everyone has the time for that. Those who are inactive and do have time to kill are playing other games, not just one.

The common bond is and will always be this game.

Everyone is back in school, the map switched, and some mistakes were made in updating the server. It can all be fixed.

Most on this forum have already come to the conclusion before that we need to switch games and I did everything in my might to disapprove that theory and intend on doing it again, but it's going to take more than just me believing that.

well we can tell our friends to try this server or somehow get more ppl idk make some event for new players like money to start and wages and tell that to ppl or make some ads and spam them to steam groups

    • Re: We need to start thinking of moving to another game

By all means, if you want to start a server in a game with the Syle community badge on it, I think you wouldn't have any problems from the admins here, but to tell them to scrap HL2DM and pick up a game just because you want to sit back and do nothing, is a bit selfish.

    • Re: We need to start thinking of moving to another game

Ok, lets look at things like this:

hl2mp has no players. No players means no load on the server cpu. Therefore, lets add gmod rp to the mix, and leave hl2rp to those who want to keep what's left of it alive. It's not like me and the other 2 players that go on the server are going to overload the cpu, therefore there could be room for two games running on the server without problem.

Now, if we are hosted on a service instead of on a colocated box then the above would probably be an issue.

Probably starting up gmod rp would be good. The biggest issue with that would be the sheer number of gmod servers that are already out there. We do not have seniority over those servers and therefore we will have a very hard time actually getting a gmod community going unless everyone from Syles plays heavily on gmod to start it up. If we start up on gmod, then it is a requirement that we take time to visit the most popular rp servers in the game, and see what it is they do to make the gameplay good. Then we must follow that, but add in features not seen on other servers. If we start up a DarkRP server on gmod, but fail to do the above, then there won't be hope of success.

Ok, I need someone who has played extensively on gmod darkrp to explain, in detail, of the roleplay mechanics. Basically I need someone to describe to me, as a new player, the details of a typical gmod rp server.

Then from that we can all come up with ideas on how to change the dynamics a bit. We can change the dynamics to be more unique, and then make or modify a plugin to fit that.

I should also mention that we should find a way to get our server to be accessible by anyone who owns gmod, but maybe doesn't own other source games. I can't play DarkRP because I have yet to find a server I can join. Every DarkRP server either gives me errors on join, or when I do join, the map is fubar with missing models and textures. That is an issue we should be sure to correct that way anyone can join as long as they own gmod.

Well.... what I have been noticing in Gmod.... is well I have played many RP game modes zombie rp, 1942 rp or somethin, rp life , one thing I really do notice is...... THERE IS NO ONE TO HELP ME UNDERSTAND THE DEM GAMEMODE AND SERVER. P.S. the admins in the game sucks. ( Got banned for mistakenly killing many players ) - Admin never warned.

Either that or ive been joining shit servers.

I think if we do start a gmod server, a good thing to do ( To gather players ) Is to make a good translation for a new player to get started on the server.

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=127907239 <-- Never bothered to read it. Seem nice with a job guide.

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=176446447 <-- Some other guide explaing darkrp......

      http://gmod.wikia.com/wiki/DarkRP <--- More explaining

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=121485865 <--- More stuff about dark rp

On the side note about missing textures....

there is guides about getting css textures for free ( Probably illegal so don't do it ) in the guide section of gmod......

Also each server I join, there would be a little kid as admin -.-. They favor players and make new players feel uncomfortable.

Tf, I dont have any sourcegames and I can join some servers with a few missing textures. <-- Still playable.

Typical darkrp server consists of m9k weapons , other weapons. <-- For sure.
They have vip jobs. They aren't op like having more health or suit.
A vip shop or item shop to make things interesting like trails. HATS like when you type !points or !vipshop.
I think they have a backpack system? <-- Hold limited stuff even after disconnect.
1 spawn point so far on the servers I joined
Players can't see other people texts unless they are in a proximity at where the player is standing or players using /ooc ( message ) Out of character chat.
      Same with mics btw.
one last important thing, servers list many rules in the form of motd and there will be a button for accept and decline, making them read the rules before playing on server. We no longer can hear them say, I don't know the rules.
Also, server got some gay shit call NLR ( NEW LIFE RULE ) meaning you respawn and you basically act like you never got killed by someone. Basically you can't attack back after spawn like no revenge kill. ( Very dumb imo )

Anyway Ill post more later when I play the gamemode.

Edit: Combine or police in that game is pretty much useless in DarkRP unless you're playing on a hardcore [Serious RP] server.

Wong, you have bad taste of choosing DarkRP servers then. I've been playing on Noobonic Plague probably for 2 years now and they have pretty nice admins, just people there are REALLY big on whenever you kill them.

    • Re: We need to start thinking of moving to another game

Ok, so I like the ideas Wong pointed out. In our case, we could have, say, the hospital be the spawn point. Everyone spawns at the hospital (in a safe zone so no spawn killing). All in all this sounds almost identical to hl2mp rp. We just keep everything the same. In fact, we could easily write our very own rp mod, and have it be like our hl2 rp mod, but with more graphical menus like DarkRP. Honestly custom coding will be the best route to go for this.

I would scrap the VIP job concept. Instead I would suggest that there be VIP item access. So for example, we implement paid credits. Players can purchase paid credits which can be exchanged for free credits, or used to pay for a VIP apartment + access to the VIP building.

For example: Say I donate $10. I will get 1000 donor credits. Now I spend 250 donor credits for VIP building (and shop) access, and I spend 500 more credits for access to an apartment in the VIP room. Basically it would work just like the free doors that say Door Cost: $100,000 but it would instead say "Door Cost: 500 donor credits". Then I do /buydoor and get the door.

      So, to summarize:
      I buy a $10 package of 1000 donor credits
I spend 250 for 6 months of access to VIP building
I spend 500 credits for a VIP apartment for 6 months
I have 250 credits left, so I spend them on donor items or exchange for normal credits. (Items that are donor only cost donor credits instead of free credits).

In addition there could potentially be different perks in the game to prevent people from being AFK all the time. You see, in DarkRP or hl2RP people could AFK for hours to get money. What we can do is implement a system to get donor credits for free (but in really small quantities). I have two ideas to let the free people slowly work their way up to receiving donor credits for free:
1: Every day, players get the options to visit http://adf.ly links. There will be 3 links per person, and once the 5 second timer is up, the players receives 10 donor credits.
2: Every time a player robs an NPC, there is a 1 in 50 chance of the player getting 40 donor credits (mathematically speaking, at the 1 in 50 chance of 40 donor credits rates, players would have to rob roughly 1250 NPCs to get 1000 donor credits ($10 worth of credits). That can keep people wanting to be active and robbing more instead of just planting or whatever.

Next, when it comes to robbing, I think we should try making it similar to GTA. When you start robbing, you must wait for the NPC to "get the money out of the register, and put it in the bag".
So, say I rob a vendor. When I start robbing I will receive crime, and then there will be a timer for X number of seconds. After that timer runs out, I will see a value for the dollars being robbed. At any point I can press a key to get out of the robbery. If I press the key before the first timer is up, I get nothing. If I press the key after the "bag" is being filled with money, then I must wait a few seconds before I can run off with the money. If I just run off then I don't get the robbed money. This is similar to GTA San Andreas Multiplayer. Secondly, there can be some certain items (cheap items like plates, and very rarely, more expensive stuff like jewlery) which I could pick up/steal from a shop. Once picked up and stolen, you get crime, and you can sell it to a black market dealer. The item you picked up and stole will eventually spawn again (more expensive items will take longer to reappear, and cheap items will spawn more quickly). This is similar to Fallout 3 where you could steal things and sell them to other shop owners for credits.

Now, I am very busy, but I do own GMod. I also am a decent programmer, and all of the above could probably be done with GMod's basic Lua plugin system. I know Lua to a degree. For me to program the above, I would just need to get a hold of GMods lua plugin libraries and their respective documentation. I would have to drop my hl2 map project completely to do the programming of the plugin. It would also take me a bit because I am also coding my own 2D Game engine.
