what was the error message?
1.)if it says you can't connect to VAC servers then you're hacking goodbye.
2.)if it says client timed out you're probably lagging

Could be a client time-lapse, that happens to me, when your online, but the game doesnt register you online, .. just a simple restart of steam will fix this 95% of the time.
